Firebird is big!

29 Apr

Well that was a *big* supprise… Firebird Nightly is 42.9MB… I just waited and waited for it to download, then I wondered why it took so long – 42.9MB was the reason :)

Asa Dotzler says it’s because they were trying to implement talkback, but somehow a bug got in there, which resulted in firebird being bloated to the extreme :)

A Bug has been filed about the problem and firebird should return to normal build-size tomorrow…

Wonder how much talkback will affect firebird? Lets hope it’s not something that makes firebird start slower, we’ll find out soon enough

Do not forget to open those ports

29 Apr

Jesus Christ, I’ve spent 2 hours trying to get the SMTP server for dreamcoder.dk to work. It’s suppose to send all mails it receives to webmaster@tsn.dk, but I kept getting “Can’t connect” errors… Then finally… FINALLY, I shouted “doh” and opened port 25 on my router :(

BTW, I’m using PostFix, great application, tried Q-Mail, but that just sucked, so many problems even compiling it…

Now it’s time to build PHP 4.3.2RC2

Blog moved

28 Apr

Moved my blog to blog.dreamcoder.dk :)

Made a small splash on dreamcoder.dk so visitors can choose where to go…

I’m not a big fan of splashs, but this one looks great :) It’s made in 3D Studio MAX 5 with some models, chrome texture and a spotlight with overshoot and some high quality shadows :)

Now a serendipity developer

28 Apr

I’ve become a developer for serendipity.

I started out by fixing like 5 bugs and adding a new feature… Looking good :)

Strange CVS Repository, no propper indent-rules or CODING STANDARDS, it also needs a better install vs. upgrade script…

Thanks for the welcome Jannis :)

dreamcoder.dk finally transfered

28 Apr

Just received this from dk-hostmaster
“The domain is delegated.

The nameserver has been restarted and the delegation is now effective.

Please note that it might take 24 hours before all nameservers on the Internet
have been updated”

Major success, now all we need to do is wait for dreamcoder.dk to be transfered

Serendipity

28 Apr

Since Serendipity development is standing still I’ve offered Jannis Hermanns, whom is the “leader” of the project, to help them commit bug-fixes etc.

This blog has great potential, but right now not even the smallest bugs are being fixed, which is a shame

Busy Busy

28 Apr

Uff, spent the weekend writing an assignment for school, ended up at 52.000 chars, which is a new record for me :)

My partner wrote ~10.000, you might even say he took advantage of me, in a strange non-sexual way :)

Firebird yadda

27 Apr

All this useless talk about Firebird-SQL being mad and Firebird being a bad name for “Phoenix”…
I have to admit at first I hated it, but now it’s starting to grow on me. It’s also obvious that The Mozilla Developers are sticking to the name and are not going to change it, well great, be quiet Firebird SQL…

I read an Interview with an unknown Mozilla Developer. I quote
“When referring to Thunderbird or Firebird before or during the 1.4 release cycle, make sure to use the project name with Mozilla pre-pended as “Mozilla Thunderbird” or “Mozilla Firebird” instead of Mozilla alone or Firebird/Thunderbird alone.”
Jee, I wonder why. It should be rather obvious that The Developers are trying to make those sick Firebird SQL people happy… Anyway, “Mozilla Firebird” also sounds better than “Firebird” or “Firebird Browser”.

Firebird 0.6 is close to release, the lastest builds are somewhat bug-free, but there are still a number of small bugs – which are just annoying :)

BTW, check out the Reasons for changing to Firebird

PHP Benchmarks

26 Apr

I was looking for an application to benchmark websites, because I am worried my new tsn.dk will be slow because smarty seems to be a little bloated for my taste.

So I found this PHP Benchmark, it’s VERY interesting.

I was greatly supprised by this:
Always calculate the length of the loop in advance!

if you do:
for($i=0; $i

dreamcoder.dk now moving

24 Apr

To my delight I got response from cliche.dk today that I was not to pay the 300 kr, and should just send them a confirmation and they’ll terminate my contract… This is great news and after receiving them I quickly went to gratisdns.dk to transfer the DNS handling over to them, whom btw also handles the tsn.dk‘s DNS…

As I mentioned before, I plan to host dreamcoder.dk myself, the only problem is bandwidth :)
