Since I’m going to switch to Redhat 9 soon, I’ve been looking at some reviews on KDE and GNOME.
What I am looking for is a good stable desktop environment that runs smooth on my 550 MHz laptop. I want it to feel like Windows XP and not some shitty X-system, like BlackBox etc.
My main problem with blackbox has always been the mouse,
1) It’s Ugly
2) It runs strange, compared to windows…
So I’ve been doing some research on GNOME and KDE, here is some of the reviews I found
Colorful KDE 3.1 Performance On Low-End Hardware
Why KDE applications have a bright desktop future
KDE 3.1 vs. GNOME 2.2: How GNOME became LAME
A brief comparison of KDE 3.1 & GNOME 2.2
So I’ve decided to go with KDE 3.1, my biggest worries is that my GTK applications won’t look like the KDE applications, but I think (almost sure) there are some GTK themes avaliable which looks A LOT like the KDE themes… So we are good to go. All I need to do now is finish my exams so that I can format my laptop
