My Advertising Manager

31 Jul

I’ve been looking at making a bit more out of my advertising.

So I downloaded phpAdsNew and installed it. Right now I use it to cycle banners on tsn.dk. It’s a bit hard to figure out at first, but you learn quickly how it works and it’s actually extremely clever.

Now I know many hate banners, which is why I won’t add huge 400×60 banners, only my small 120×15 banners :)

Nice program, I can recommend it to anyone who wants to have a way to manage their advertising easily

LOTR: Return of the King trailer is out

30 Jul

TheOneRing.net writes:
“TheOneRing.net brings you this exclusive first look at THE RETURN OF THE KING! This file was sent to us by person or persons unknown, it shows 1:35 minutes in GLORIOUS Quicktime a TON of shots from ROTK. Sam and Frodo in Mordor, Pippin and Merry, Gandalf at Minas Tirith, fell beats, Pelennor Fields, Orcs and Men fighting, Aragorn and MORE! !!!MAJOR SPOILERS!!!”

So open wget and lets get this baby home to daddy

While I doubt it is indeed the final trailer (it’s missing some of that cool trailer music). I really think ROTK is going to kick some major ass. Wow, the scenes looks great. The battle at Pelennor Fields will be the biggest thing comming to theaters this year. It’s going to make Helms Deep look like a kindergarden fight.
Can’t wait for the full trailer (My guess is this is only a small teaser trailer)

How do you pronounce blog anyway?

27 Jul

Hmm, how do you pronounce ‘blog’?

It comes from the word ‘weblog’, right? So if you take the word ‘weblog’, and remove the ‘we’, you get ‘blog’… which is sort of pronounced like the word ‘blood’.

But many pronounce it as ‘bee-log’. That not only sounds fucked up, but doesn’t make any sense.

So what is the correct way to pronounce the word ‘blog’?
I say ‘blog’, not ‘bee-log’ – But I might be wrong, it happends :)
A guy from work pronouce it as ‘bee-log’, which made me think :)

I fucking hate D-Link

18 Jul

Then suddenly while working a little on serendipity. I can’t connect to blog.dreamcoder.dk from my desktop.

I can connect fine from my laptop and all other computers in the house. but not my Desktop.

Of course I run the usual

ipconfig /flushdns

etc. and disable and enable the internet connection. That didn’t work so I rebooted the desktop, no change.

Went to the server and looked at the apache logs, no problems. The desktop is connecting, but no data is being sent to it from the server. I reboot apache, doesn’t fix it. I reboot MySQL, doesn’t fix it. I reboot any other service I could think of (samba, postfix etc.) No change. I look at my configuration in apache, I see if PHP is bugging… But nope, no problems… and the other computers still connect fine.

Then I reboot the Server. No change

Okay, so while I keep testing and looking at the logs I try to reboot the router, a D-Link DI-604. No change after that. I check if ports are open, connections are open… No problems there.

So I’m a little pissed after spending one hour debugging this shit and looking at logs.
Then I go back to the router and reboot it again… No change.

Then I release the DNS within the router and renew the DHCP information.

BLING BLING, it’s working… Now what does that tell you? (if you didn’t already know): D-Link routers SUCK BIGTIME. That firmware is the most bugged piece of software I have ever seen. I hope they burn in hell at some point.

Update: That’s it, this router is just too fucked. Can anyone recommend a stable fully featureed router with working SNMP etc? D-Link’s gotta go

Personal domain

16 Jul

I’ve been wanting a personal domain for some time…

It would be cool to have sommer.org (which would make my mails look like tom@sommer.org). But all sommer.* domains are taken

So I really have no idea what to buy for a personal domain…

On a side note I am planning a new project which is a forum. The domain is availiable so I’m not saying another word before I buy it :D

Mozilla gets a new end-user website

15 Jul

I remember a while back when we we’re talking, on the Mozilla Newsgroups, about redesigning mozilla.org. The site is very old and does not really target end-users in any way.

The reason for not redesigning mozilla.org was that nobody could agree on how it should look or what it should contain

I just found out Mozilla has launched a new website which indeed has a very sexy design. It’s called MozillaFoundation.org (Fuck, I’m gonna have to learn to spell “Foundation” now :(). I have to say the design really surprised me. So far the impression I have gotten from all these l33t Mozilla coders was that design was irrelevant, functionality is key. Which is true, but why not have both?

The new site will really help mozilla grow.

I hope that, in the future, the entire mozilla.org will look like mozillafoundation.org. Out with the old, in with the new

I still don’t understand why they use that fucking ugly qute logo as the Mozilla Firebird logo, it’s… ugly. Why they promote a theme/look which only looks good in Windows XP is beyond me. Qute is ugly in any other OS

I’m back

12 Jul

The reason for my inactivity, and downtime of this blog, was that I was at a small LAN in odder for a few days.

Upon arriving I tried to get some files from my server at home, but was unable to connect to it. First I thought it was my Internet which had gone down but then I found out my parents had turned off my Linux Server…. TURNED OFF MY LINUX SERVER? Don’t ask me what they were thinking.. sigh

Anyway, it was a fun couple of days, but it’s good to be home :)

Looking forward to work on monday (how many can actually say that) :)

Thunderbird improves junkmail filters

07 Jul

The current junk mail filters in Mozilla Thunderbird are good, however the UI and behavior of the junk filter is not that good, yet.

I know much work is being done to improve this feature. There are several bugs filed with RFEs to make junk mail more effective and more logic in it’s actions.

Like right now, the junk filter is run AFTER all messages are downloaded from the server… This is not very logic since users would normally begin browsing mails right after each message is downloaded. It would therefore make more sense to check for junk after EACH message is downloaded.

Of course there is also the fact that junk mail triggers the mail-notification, but that bug is being worked hard on.

I do however like how Thunderbird is much improving in the ways of handling junk, like you can now select not to allow HTML or loading of remote images if a mail is junk. Also check out this document on the future of junk mail filtering, SEXY!

Thunderbird is the future, I just wish there were more developers on it, and that they would listen to MY requests :)

Current Layout

05 Jul

The current layout/style is just me trying to come up with a good default style for serendipity.

It won’t be permenant and is not final :)
