Dreamweaver MX 2004

31 Aug

Check out the new Dreamweaver MX 2004. It’s funny how Macromedia can keep releasing these products without fixing the most basic bugs. Bugs like Dreamweaver not understanding the short PHP tag

Macromedia needs to focus on turning Dreamweaver into a good coding editor, and not keep adding all those ASP extensions etc. etc. which is just pure crap.
It has only the most basic PHP coding functions, hints and features… Which is a shame.

More hardware

23 Aug

Just bought
2x Maxtor 160,0 GB – SATA150
1x Promise FastTrak SATA150 TX4, SATA controller

I had a bunch of problems with my BIOS loading my two IDE harddrives first, resulting my Windows Installation becomming F:

Not something I wanted to live with, so after some hard thinking… I solved it by disabling the two IDE drives in my BIOS, during the Windows installation. Thereby getting windows installed on C:, on my SATA drives

I am currently running RAID 0 which seems to run okay, nice and fast.

I do have one problem, my disks makes noises when it “thinks” – I can only remember this from back when I had my 300 MB hardrive and 486 machine.

I don’t really mind it, but it’s not somehing which I expected from two high-tech drives.

My computer now seems to be performing nicely.
Fast data-transfers and a 2 MBit connection, makes you enjoy using the computer just a little more :)

Of couse all this results in me being able to finally use my new DVD drive, which I must say shows Lord of the Rings – Fellowship of the Ring quite nicely :)

Stupid W32.Sobig.F@mm

19 Aug

This latest virus, W32.Sobig.F@mm, is causing my mailbox to get flooded with lots of “Re: Approved” mails etc.

Thank god for Norton Antivirus, but it’s still god damn annoying. Symantec is calling it “Distribution: Medium” well fuck that, it’s bloody out of control

Compiled PHP 4.3.3.RC3

17 Aug

I just tried to compile PHP 4.3.3RC3 with mySQL4 4.0.13 as an external library. It started with lots and lots of errors because PHP was still trying to use the mysql.so extension. I then removed that extension from my php.ini and now everything seems to be running just fine.

I also noticed that PHP 4.3.2 is FINALLY in debian unstable, but it’s much more fun to compile stuff on your own ;)

I would also like to note that 4.3.3 is noticably faster than 4.3.2, mainly because of a filesystem change in how PHP handles files (So I’ve been told)
Once it goes stable/released, I recommend you all upgrade :)

Just had an idea

16 Aug

Just got the idea to allow users to subscribe to entries.

I’ve never seen any other blog offer this option, so I thought it would be a nice addition to serendipity.

It’s now checked in to CVS and requires this change to the SQL

ALTER TABLE `serendipity_comments` ADD `subscribed` ENUM( 'true', 'false' ) NOT NULL AFTER `type`;

Running for my life

13 Aug

I spent Tuesday evening running 5km at the DHL Staffet 2003.
It took me 31:27 min to complete the course and 20 min. to get some air back into my brain. My poor untrained body has been hurting most of the day because of that bloody run.

Angry post about Firebird changes

07 Aug

In recent Mozilla Firebird builds, the otherwise standerdized way of displaying the application name in the window titles has been removed, where you would normally see “My blog – Mozilla Firebird”, there is now only “My Blog” and nothing when opening a new tab, I therefore wrote… in anger, this post to the Firebird forum

The Firebird developers needs to realize that while THEY may like that the title does not contain ” – Mozilla Firebird” the rest of the world doesn’t…

I am extremely surprised by the act of adding this … FEATURE…. It does not seem like the true spirit of Mozilla, or opensource, to forcefully implement a feature which has no backing by the target audience, only by the developers themselves.

A vote should clearly have been made, or a post the a newsgroup, about this feature… While I respect the developers in creating this wonderful browser, they should also realize that what THEY may like, is not necessarily what the rest of us (or the end-users) like.

And instead of saying “no comment” or closing bugs filed about the issue.. they should make their case for this change, because I see NO LOGIC in it’s existence

It should be noted that I wrote this right after watching “revolution OS”, which sparked this post. While it may seem harsh, I really do not understand why developers ignore the tons of comments and objections about this “feature”. The very least the developers could do was to make their case about the change, but no…

Update: Dave Hyatt argues that since nobody ever saw the “Mozilla Firebird” part in their taskbar anyway, there was no need for it.. At the same time he says it caused problems on Mac… Well buhu! Then make it go away on Macs… I don’t want my favorite product spoiled by Mac…

If it ain’t broken.. DONT FIX IT!
