Use Mozilla Firebird, today, now!

Posted August 6th, 2003. Filed under Browsers

After reading this small announcement about marketing Mozilla Firebird, I decided to try and convince my parents to use the Mozilla Firebird Browser.

I’ve long put it of because I never felt Firebird was userfriendly enough for my newbie parents to use.

So I started out by installing version 0.6.1 ( To avoid that AutoComplete bug ), using the windows installer. I then asked them if they wanted to learn how to block popups and my dad quickly started talking about how he hated all the spam he was getting and all those popups he got in his face when he visited his daily sites.
And so, I pulled the rabbit out of the hat and showed him Mozilla Firebird.
I showed him how it would block popups and how he could use tabs for smarter browsing and get a better overview. He really liked it, all he asked was that I imported his Internet Explorer bookmarks. I had to create a new Firebird profile to do that, that could be made easier?!

Anyway, my dad told my mum and now they are both giving Firebird a good and fair try on their computer…

I guess i Firebird Conversion Score is 8 now :)

Hey, are you sure about the Windows installer avoiding the autocomplete bug? No one ever told me ’bout that.

I know that I never experienced it, but I don’t see how the installer could avoid it, since it’s just the .zip file re-packaged.

(I think my Firebird conversion score is over 30 now, but I should check if the converted people are still using it :)

    Mine is only 3 so far… But hey, it’s a progress :)

    Every single person counts…

Seb, it’s not the installer which fixed the autocomplete bug. It’s the 6.0.1 version which did… I guess I placed that small sentence in the wrong place ;) I can see why someone could misunderstand.

    Yeah, wrong place :)
(I was beginning to think no one ever tells me anything about the installer, since the page crashed in Opera7b2 and no one told me too :o)

All 0.6.1 builds don’t have the autocomplete bug (you got the number slightly wrong), whether they use the installer or not.

I’ve only converted 2 people to Firebird so far, but I’m working on it :).

    Ah yes, my bad :)

  7. It seemed like a once in a lifetime opportunity but I was just a bit too late to the table. I just don’t think I’ll have the time to figure out answers to what should be simple questions, like am I allowed to solicit contributions for the filing fee and if so then do those contributions fall under the regulations…
