Is it the “right” time to buy a LCD screen?

Posted April 10th, 2004. Filed under Uncategorized

The powerbutton on my compaq 17″ CRT screen doesn’t work anymore. This of course can be annoying when trying to sleep. So I think it’s time to find a new screen.

The obvious choice is of course a flatscreen, it’s the future, no doubt. But flatscreens are expensive, expecially when it’s a technolegy which is on the move all the time, what’s hot now can be old and rusty in a week.

Anyway; So I know I have to get a flatscreen. At work we have the Samsung SyncMaster 191T, they are really awesome. The max resolution is not what I had expected from a 19″ screen, they can only handle 1280×1024.

The way I see it, 1280×1024 is something you run on a 17″ and 1600×1200 is what you run on a 19″. After browsing shg.dk’s selection of flatscreens I however quickly noticed that flatscreens that can run 1600×1200 are rare – and expensive.

So anyway, I’m thinking of getting a Samsung SyncMaster 193T, black. It’s state-of-the-art, but expensive and as I said; it could be yesterdays news in a week.

Any suggestions? Is it the “right” time to buy a LCD screen?

Check out Dells Flatscreens. 20″ with fantastic resolution, and a reasonable price. $800??

    Tom,
Found your blog through the Serendipity site. If you’re a gamer, make sure that the pixel response time on your LCD monitor is under 35ms. Older LCDs have slower pixel response times and can have bleeding when playing games or movies.
I just did a quick check and the Samsung that you’re looking at has a response time of 25ms, so it should be really nice. Samsung makes good products.
