Converted to bloglines

01 Aug

I’ve been using RSS Bandit to manage my daily RSS feeds for a while. However I’ve come to be really annoyed with it, like if one feed fails to respond it simply stops checking for any updates at all. It also uses IE as rendering engine, need I say more?

So after reading some comments on BlogLines, I decided to try it out. Basically it’s a very simple web service. You can add/edit/delete and categorize feeds plus download a small and limited notifier which popups up when a feed is updated.
You can also see witch feeds other blogline users are subscribed to, great for locating cool and interesting feeds.

Some things I miss in blogline:
* Web API, so I can integrate it into a Serendipity plugin
* Better notifier, people could write their own if they had an API for this (open source rocks)
* Better searching, searching for “PHP” brings up all kinds of silly stuff

However I have now made the switch and am fairly happy with it so far. It’s a shame you have to open a browser window to see which feeds are updated, but that goes into the “Better notifier” category.

I am currently subscribed to 73 feeds :)

What I like about bloglines being web-based is the ability to be able to see the latest updated feeds irrespective of where I am, which is not possible in case of a desktop based aggregator.Irrespective of whether I am at home, office or an internet cafe, i know what feeds are new.

Another favorite is, Bloglines also gives me an OPML list of blogs if you have a public account[http://www.bloglines.com/public/houndbee], I have integrated this here[http://kaustubh.org/serendipity/] using the Remote RSS plugin for s9y[http://www.s9y.org].

Yes i agree, a web API would have been cool :)
